Summit Hill council vacancy filled

Michael Alabovitz, who served on Summit Hill Borough Council in the past, is once again a member.

Alabovitz was one of five people to apply for a two-year vacant seat. The vote for filling that seat came down to two people and was tied at 3-3, with Mayor Paul McArdle casting the tiebreaker.

Alabovitz last served on the council for a term ending in 2015. Gregory Kosciolek made the motion to appoint him while William O’Gurek cast the second. The third vote for Alabovitz was cast by Council President Michael Kokinda.

The other candidate was Edward Kane, a former zoning officer, who was nominated by Debra Ranck, with David Wargo giving the second. They were joined in voting for Kane by Karen Ruzicka.

Wargo also nominated Joseph Kosalko for the position, and Ruzicka cast a second, but he got no votes from the council.

The other individuals who applied were Myrna Gledhill and Matthew Citino.

The vacancy was created when Kokinda won the November election for both a four-year term and a two-year term on council. He opted for the four-year term.

In another personnel matter, Citino was appointed to the borough Board of Appeals. Borough Secretary Kira Steber said there is still a vacancy on the board.

The council approved the 2019 tax delinquent list, which will now be turned over to the borough’s collection service. There are 146 bills delinquent, amounting to a total of $53,747.54 owed.

Approval was given to Sara Ruch to plan the annual Hootenanny in the Ludlow Park from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 28. Permission was also given to use the Hill Top Community Center and use electricity in the park for the event.

A letter was received from Hudson Energy informing the borough of changes that could affect the borough due to a utility tariff that will result in increased charges on the upcoming electric bills.
