Schuylkill commissioners rescind contracts

Late last year, the Allentown Diocese announced it would close its Holy Family adult day care facility in Orwigsburg by the end of January. During a meeting Wednesday, on the advice of head of senior services Deanna Orlowsky, the Schuylkill County Commissioners terminated the three-year contracts it had with Holy Family.

The contracts were for fiscal years ending June 30 in 2020, 2021 and 2022. The contract amounts were $268,521, $279,883 and $292,271. The contracts were Fee for Service, with a rate of $62 full day and $31 half day, which included meals.

“We are certainly going to miss their services,” said Chairman George Halcovage. “But we are thankful of their assistance as we make this transition.”

Halcovage said that the money and services will be spread among other existing providers.

In other action the commissioners:

Approved purchasing 31 computers from Dell at a cost of $38,652 through the COSTARS program for Adult Probation. Neil Stefanisko, head of Adult Probation, said that the funds will come from offenders’ supervision fees.

Approved contracting with McNulty’s Building Supply, Pottsville, for carpeting for the Adult Probation Building for $38,652.

On the request of Drug & Alcohol Director Melissa Kalyan, approved advertising for bids for bulk purchase of 4 mg Narcan and 2 mg naloxone, with a tentative award date of Feb. 26.

Approved a contract for election ballots, 26 cents each, with William Penn Printing Company, Pittsburgh. The company was the lone bidder.
