Police warn about ATT phone scam

Nesquehoning police are warning residents of a phone scam that is claiming your ATT iPhone has been compromised.

Police Chief Sean Smith said on Friday that the department received an automated phone call from a phone number 1-800-442-4000 claiming to be from ATT and stating that Smith’s iPhone had been compromised. The automation then requested he push 1 to speak with someone who could resolve the problem.

The issue was, the call did not come through on a cellphone, but rather at the police department.

He said that this is yet another scam targeting residents in hopes of getting personal information and urged people to hang up if they receive such a call.

If there are questions about your ATT service, Smith said people should always contact local ATT dealers.
