Philly reporter questions Tamaqua board president

By Kathy Kunkel

Tuesday's regular monthly meeting of the Tamaqua Area School Board was finished in a matter of minutes as everything on the agenda had been discussed at last week's committee meetings. It was after the meeting adjourned that things became a bit heated when a reporter from the Philadelphia Inquirer approached board president Larry Wittig concerning his possible resignation.

Wittig immediately tried to shut down the conversation, telling Patricia "Tricia" Nadolny he had nothing to say to her about the article she wrote outlining a woman's accusation concerning what she felt was sexual misconduct in the early 1980s.

When the reporter explained she was just doing her job and trying to get his side of the story, Wittig noted he said all he planned to say on the issue in a Times News article published on Dec.22, 2017,  and quickly left the room surrounded by several supporters.

In that article, Wittig stated he would let the decision concerning a possible resignation to his fellow board members.

Nadolny was able to speak to board vice president Thomas Rottet, who said the board had no plans on asking Witting to resign, "I don't know what happened 30 years ago, but I have zero concerns about Larry's character and his dedication to education".
