Margie Donald of Nesquehoning recently celebrated her 90th birthday. She was born on Sept. 6, 1927, to John and Jenny (Fulton) Schaefer of Tamaqua.

Margie was married to Jack Donald, who passed away in 1997.

For her birthday, Margie’s nieces, Pat Raeder and Libby Klingaman of Tamaqua, and Gail Blessing of Mountain Top, along with other family and friends, celebrated with gifts and a large birthday cake with a picture of Margie on it, taken when she was 19 years old.

The biggest surprise of the evening was when a pair of clowns showed up bearing balloons and Champagne. The clowns turned out to be her sister and her husband, Barbara and Gus Cienki of Atlanta, Georgia, who had told Margie they were unable to be there for the celebration.

After enjoying cake and Champagne, Margie entertained her guests by singing some of her favorite old songs.

The following evening, members of her late husband’s family turned out to celebrate with another cake and more presents.
