Lehighton Council hosts first block grant hearing

On Monday in Lehighton, the first of two Community Development Block Grant public hearings was held.

The purpose of the hearing was to receive input and comments by residents for use of the CDBG 2019 funds and prior use of CDBG funds for the borough.

For fiscal year 2019, the borough will receive about $102,906. Of that, $84,383 is for project implementation, while the other $18,523 is for project implementation.

Pre-applications for entitlement communities are due by May 3. The second public hearing will likely be held in September.

Formal applications will likely be submitted to the Department of Community and Economic Development in November or December.

After the meeting, borough manager Nicole Beckett said no decision has been made as to what the borough’s allotment of CDBG funding will be used toward.
