Jim Thorpe man faces drug, assault charges

A Jim Thorpe man on probation for drug-related offenses faces additional drug and assault charges following a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, police said.

Nathan Brewster, 22, faces one felony and two misdemeanor counts of possessing a controlled substance, and one count each of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief.

State police were called to a Prospect Street residence in Weissport just before 4:30 p.m. on Monday for a reported domestic dispute.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Joseph Burke, a female victim said Brewster “pinned her down by holding her neck, head-butted her face, causing her nose to bleed, and bit her finger.”

The victim said she and her father hid in a second-floor bathroom as Brewster cracked a door trying to get inside.

After Brewster was taken into custody, police searched him and found a metal smoking device containing marijuana residue and two pill bottles, one with 115 suspected Klonopin pills and another with 29 suspected trazodone pills. Both bottles, police added, had “tampered and removed labels that misrepresented the bottles’ contents.”

Brewster was arraigned Tuesday with bail set at $100,000 cash.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 26.
