Heritage Hill celebrates 20th anniversary

When asked what Heritage Hill community center represents, the staff all shouted the words – family, compassionate and loving. It was difficult for them to choose a single word.

Heritage Hill, a senior community center in Weatherly celebrated its 20th anniversary on Wednesday. The day was filled with activities for the residents and workers to enjoy.

Events included: The Coffee Chronicles Musical Show with Janet Sager, 20th Anniversary Edition of Heritage Hill Family Feud and refreshments and entertainment by M&J Big Band. Prizes were given to residents throughout the day.

The Family Feud game involved the nursing staff that worked at Heritage Hill for numerous years. They were asked questions about the residents as the residents watched and got a chuckle from some of the questions. It showed how much the nursing staff wants to personally know each resident.

The celebration served as a time to reflect on the memories that have been created over 20 years. Some staff members have worked at Heritage Hill since its opening.

Executive Director of Heritage Hill Denise Langman became aware of the facility because she worked for the company that built the senior center building.

“The different direction I went on was the one I was meant to be on,” Langman said. “I have been so fortunate to have met and cared for so many residents. The reputation has always been the quality care.”

Shannon O’Donnell has been a part of the nursing staff for 20 years. She remained adamant how close everyone feels about Heritage Hill.

“I look at them (the residents) as extended grandparents,” O’Donnell said. “Our staff is caring, and we all look at each other as one big family.”

Heritage Hill celebrates every anniversary. As tradition, a staff member creates a special T-shirt for the occasion.

This year, April Gerhard, LPN, designed the shirt. It represents the apple orchard that was once on Heritage Hill’s grounds, and what the senior center signifies to everyone involved.

“On the shirt, I included everything that I thought represented Heritage Hill,” Gerhard said.

With all the excitement, the community of Heritage Hill looks forward for the next 20 years.
