Carbon County commissioners

The Carbon County commissioners on Thursday acted on the following items:

• Approved the appointment of Sara J. Keiser, Franklin Township tax collector, as the elected official representative to the Carbon County Action Committee for Human Services board of directors.

• Approved the Medical Assistance Transportation Program final fiscal year 2015-16 allocation acknowledgment letter listing $987,462 as the final allocation.

• Approved an agreement with McCarthy Engineering of Boyertown for professional services related to the replacement of the heating system at the Old Mauch Chunk Train Station. The cost for all services is $13,850. Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that a leak in the walls from old piping caused a problem last year and that the furnace is over 30 years old.

“It’s long overdue,” he said. “It’s an old, rusty system that needs to be replaced.”

• Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard said that work on the new storage building in the county parking lot under the new Route 903 bridge should begin next week and will take approximately two to three months to complete.

• Approved the resignations of Amanda Loudon of Lehighton, corrections officer, effective Aug. 22; Robert J. Blisard of Albrightsville, deputy sheriff, effective Sept. 11; and Scott A. Gillespie of Lehighton, probation officer I, effective Sept. 28.

• Approved the changes of status for Abigail E. Baptiste of Albrightsville, from special deputy sheriff to deputy sheriff, effective Sept. 12; and Jodi L. Kelly of Albrightsville, from live scan operator/corrections clerk to administrative assistant, corrections, effective Aug. 31.

• Approved the hiring of Jeralyn C. Vanchieri of Effort, county caseworker I, Children and Youth Services, effective Sept. 10.
