Carbon prison addresses deficiencies

Carbon County's prison has a few minor issues that are being addressed.

During the monthly prison board meeting on Wednesday, the board announced that it received the latest inspection report from the state Department of Corrections.Timothy Fritz, deputy warden, said the report showed that the prison had a few deficiencies in the line of treatment as well as some of the medical policies."It was just a few minor things that need to be taken care of to be in line with the Title 37," he said.He said the prison staff has already corrected "quite a few of the policies that had deficiencies."The other deficiencies under treatment services include adding a counselor to help inmates with services to transition to civilian life, but Fritz said budgetary constraints do not allow for that addition at this time.Fritz said the state reported the prison was a "very clean facility."In other matters, the prison board is working to rectify some software issues with its security cameras.Fritz said the issues are compatibility with the current equipment. The prison is also in the process of adding additional cameras around the exterior and interior of the facility."We want to get a better look at everything that is going on here," he said, adding that some of the additional cameras have already helped prison staff solve some issues in the blocks. The prison has been purchasing a few cameras at a time when budget figures allow, and the project should be complete within the next two years. Each camera costs about $200.
