Back in August the Chestnuthill Park behind the Chestnuthill Community Building, the Western Pocono Community Library’s StoryWalk boards were destroyed.
Created by the library, it was truly a labor love, and it was a wonderful way to introduce children to the fun of reading and the world of books.
“It was completely destroyed. It was put up on wooden stakes and the pages are taped and fastened with Velcro and stapled. They were torn off, we are missing several stakes, and others are completely broken so we cannot put it back up right now,” said Patti Weiss, director of Western Pocono Community Library.
Weiss said she was glad the Ross Township Park had the StoryWalk and people could take their child there to do the walk.
Then the Ross Township Community Park had their StoryWalk destroyed. More than a dozen stakes were damaged.
It might not look like a big project, but creating the story boards and putting them all together is time consuming, and the cost of the supplies is also expensive. Especially with all the cutbacks libraries have experienced in the past couple of years.
While it was difficult to understand why anyone would want to be so destructive and mean, it is even harder to think the person or people who destroyed the first StoryWalk, it is even more heartbreaking to see the damage that was also done at Ross Township Park.
