Man dies from injuries in March 9 Lansford crash

The driver in fatal crash in Lansford earlier this month has died, according to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.

James R. Carroll, 47, of Summit Hill died Thursday afternoon at St. Luke’s University Hospital, Bethlehem, from multiple traumatic injuries from the crash in the early morning of March 9.

The crash, which happened on Route 209 (Patterson Street) near Andrewsville Road, also claimed the life of a passenger, Sean Maiden, 48, of Jim Thorpe.

State police suspected Carroll was driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance when the crash happened. No interview or field sobriety tests were conducted due to severity of his injuries.

Carroll was heading north at 1:53 a.m. when his Nissan Maxima left the road, continued along the shoulder and struck a tree, police said. Following the impact, the car continued along the shoulder, struck a guardrail, overturned and came to a rest in the road, police said.

Both men had to be extricated from the vehicle, and the road was shut down for more than six hours.

Carroll was wearing a seatbelt, police said, but Maiden was not and also suffered multiple blunt force injuries.
