Carbon prothonotary issues reports for 3-month period

A total of 284 cases were started in June in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Kayla M. Semmel, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder.

A breakdown of the cases filed includes: civil actions, 25; custody complaints, 13; district justice appeals, 4; divorce complaints, 21; judgments, 159; license appeals, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 10; protection from abuse petitions, 27; quiet title action, 1; miscellaneous cases, 3; complaint in partition, 1; name change petition, 1; stipulations/waivers of liens, 2; zoning appeal, 1; mental health cases, 13; and complaint in replevin, 1.

The office staff processed 54 applications for U.S. Passports and assisted the public with 23 passport renewal applications. Fifty-five passport photographs were also taken.

Semmel said passport applications are handled on an appointment basis and staff will continue to take photographs for passport purposes.

Total income for the money totaled $25,518.95, including: prothonotary’s fees, $20,692.37; custody/divorce fees, $1,100; data processing charges, $3,074.58; PFA surcharges/sheriff, $25; PFA surcharges/courts, $25; and stenographer fees, $602.

The prothonotary also remitted $725 to the Remote Access Fund, $4,019.69 to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, $769.94 to the Automation Fund, for future automation improvements in the office; and $46.75 to the commonwealth, representing taxes paid on passport photographs.

Semmel’s report for July shows there were 288 cases filed, as follows:

Civil actions, 36; custody complaints, 12; district justice appeals, 5; divorce complaints, 8; judgments, 165; license appeals, 5; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 7; protection from abuse petitions, 26; quiet title actions, 2; miscellaneous case, 1; complaint in partition, 1; name change petition, 1; stipulations/waivers of liens, 5; mental health cases, 7; district court appeal, 1; and complaints in ejectment, 3.

The office staff processed 56 applications for U.S. Passports and assisted the public with 19 passport renewal applications. Forty-seven passport photographs were also taken.

Total income for the money totaled $34,319.01, including: prothonotary’s fees, $26,011.92; custody/divorce fees, $2,312.50; data processing charges, $5,310.44; PFA surcharges/sheriff, $25; PFA surcharges/courts, $25; and stenographer fees, $634.15.

The prothonotary also remitted $1,475 to the Remote Access Fund, $3,627.67 to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, $1,440.39 to the Automation Fund, for future automation improvements in the office; and $47.60 to the commonwealth, representing taxes paid on passport photographs.

The August report of the prothonotary shows 339 cases were started, as follows:

Civil actions, 29; custody complaints, 12; district justice appeals, 4; divorce complaints, 9; judgments, 224; license appeals, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 16; protection from abuse petitions, 21; quiet title actions, 2; miscellaneous cases, 3; name change petitions, 7; stipulations/waivers of liens, 3; and mental health cases, 7.

The office staff processed 53 applications for U.S. Passports and assisted the public with 22 passport renewal applications. Fifty-seven passport photographs were also taken.

Total income for the money totaled $26,752.791, including: prothonotary’s fees, $22,352.89; data processing charges, $4,222.50; PFA surcharges/sheriff, $54.40; and stenographer fees, $123.

The prothonotary also remitted $825 to the Remote Access Fund, $2,435.64 to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, $1,180 to the Automation Fund, for future automation improvements in the office; and $48.45 to the commonwealth, representing taxes paid on passport photographs.
