May 24, 1980 - Northwestern’s Leo Hastings and Pleasant Valley’s Chris Forte both earn medals at the PIAA State Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg. Hastings, who qualified for the 2A pole vault finals by clearing 12-0 the previous day, makes it over 12-6 to finish in a three-way tie for third place. Forte tosses the javelin 136-8 in 2A qualifying, but fails to improve on that throw in the finals, and finishes in third place. Tamaqua’s 400 relay team of Steve Comisac, Mark McCarroll, Ted Keich and Joe Lakitsky takes fourth in a time of 44.02, while Northwestern’s Heike Kooperman places fifth in the 2A discus with a toss of 120-7.
