Prothonotary report

Prothonotary Kayla M. Semmel released the statistical report of activities for her office for the months of November and December 2021.

There were 463 cases started in November with the following breakdown: civil actions, 26; custody, 10; DJ appeal, 4; divorce, 8; ejectment, 1; license appeal, 1; mandamus, 1; mortgage foreclosures, 5; protection from abuse, 29; judgments, 256; Stip/waiv liens, 4; custody modifications, 7; and writs, 7; miscellaneous, 4; judgments, 352; and tax sale, 2.

A total of 26 passport applications were processed in November. In addition, a total of 18 renewal applicants sought assistance from the office; and 28 photos were taken. Passports are by appointment and pictures can now be taken in the office.

Total income generated was $34,340.42; prothonotary fees, $23,891.59; custody/divorce fees, $3,520; data processing fees, $6,117.47; interest income, $31.86; PFA surcharge sheriff, $25; PFA surcharge courts, $25; and stenographer fess, $729.50.

In addition to the above fees, the office remitted to the county for the remote access fund for remote access fees of $1,200, remitted to the state department of revenue (fees collected on new cases) $3,008.68; and automation fund $1,810 - money collected for future automation and improvements to the office. Sales tax money turned over to the state for tax on passport photos, $23.80.

There were 379 cases started in December with the following breakdown: civil actions, 24; custody, 10; DJ appeal, 6; divorce, 9; assessment appeal, 1; license appeal, 1; mortgage foreclosures, 7; name change, 3; partition, 1; protection from abuse, 37; zoning appeal, 2; quite title, 2; judgments, 248; Stip/waiv liens, 4; custody modifications, 6; and writs, 15; mental health, 1; official oaths, 1; and paternity, 1.

A total of 28 passport applications were processed in December. In addition, a total of 11 renewal applicants sought assistance from the office; and 27 photos were taken. Passports are by appointment and pictures can now be taken in the office.

Total income generated was $35,600.74; prothonotary fees, $25,387.92; custody/divorce fees, $3,705; data processing fees, $5,850; interest income, $17.82; PFA surcharge sheriff, $25; PFA surcharge courts, $25; and stenographer fess, $590.

In addition to the above fees, the office remitted to the county for the remote access fund for remote access fees of $7,700, remitted to the state department of revenue (fees collected on new cases) $3,270.66; and automation fund $1,706.48 - money collected for future automation and improvements to the office. Sales tax money turned over to the state for tax on passport photos, $22.10.
