2021 general election: 41 win election races via write-in votes in Carbon
Forty-one election races in Carbon County were decided by successful write-in votes on Nov. 2.
The write-in method of voting is generally used by voters when they come across a position on the ballot for which there are no candidates. Only one vote, or one more than another person, is needed for a person to win an office.
The Carbon County Elections Bureau recently conducted a canvass of the general election balloting, and determined the following people were winners of the respective offices for which they received write-in votes:
Beaver Meadows: council, four-year terms, Robert J. Cryder III, 21 votes, James G. Leonard, 19 votes, and Michael D. Baran Sr., 13 votes; and constable, six-year term, Joseph Sando, 36 votes.
Bowmanstown Borough: judge of elections, four-year term, Tonia Smale, 2 votes; and inspector of elections, four-year term, 2 votes.
East Penn Township: constable, six-year term, Steven Ramos, 17 votes (defeated Herb Truhe who had 13 votes).
Franklin Township: auditor, six-year term, Barbara E. Beltz, 4 votes (defeated Jeff Kuklentz who had 3 votes.
Jim Thorpe Borough: judge of elections, District 14, four-year term, Amanda Freeby, 2 votes; inspector of elections, District 14, four-year term, Sky Fogel, 2 votes; and inspector of elections, District 18, four-year term, Sky Fogel, 3 votes.
Kidder Township: constable, six-year term, Noel Torres, 15 votes (defeated Chris Rosenlund, who had 3 votes, and Curt Ashner and Howard Vanbuskirk, who had 2 votes each; auditor, six-year term, Lorri Gavitt, 2 votes; judge of elections, District 21, four-year term, Mary Farnschlader, 3 votes; and inspector of elections, District 21, four-year term, Mary Farnschlader, 8 votes.
Lansford Borough: judge of elections, District 24, four-year term, Daniel J. Wynn, 2 votes.
Lehigh Township: constable, six-year term, Lawrence Smith, 1 vote; auditor, six-year term, Joseph Barna, 1 vote; auditor, two-year term, Theresa Davis, 1 vote; judge of elections, four-year term, Andrew Strauss, 1 vote; and inspector of elections, four-year term, Jason Barna, 1 vote.
Lehighton: judge of elections, District 28, four-year term, Wendy Wentz, 5 votes; judge of elections, District 29, four-year term, Darin Ackerknecht, 1 vote; inspector of elections, District 29, four-year term, Darin Ackerknecht, 1 vote; and inspector of elections, District 30, four-year term, Craig Bowman, 6 votes.
Lower Towamensing Township: constable, six-year term, Richard Salter III, 205 votes (defeated Patrick Davidse, who had 6 votes, and Beth Guth Ritter, who had 4 votes); and judge of elections, District 32, four-year term, Kathi McCauley, 2 votes.
Nesquehoning Borough: constable, six-year term, Regina Kennedy, 3 votes; and judge of elections, District 41, four-year term, Michele Hangley, 1 vote.
Packer Township: auditor, two-year term, Craig Reiner, 2 votes.
Palmerton Borough: constable, six-year term, Beth Ritter Guth, 33 votes; and judge of elections, District 47, four-year term, Jessica Claypoole, 2 votes.
Parryville Borough: tax collector, four-year term, Gaul Schafer, 4 votes; and inspector of elections, four-year term, Douglas C. Hawk, 4 votes.
Penn Forest Township: auditor, six-year term, Rebecca Hassenbein, 4 votes; auditor, two-year term, Brandon Bell, 3 votes; and inspector of elections, District 51-01, four-year term, Richard Hoffman, 1 vote.
Summit Hill Borough: judge of elections, District 55, four-year term, Sandra Dellicker, 2 votes; and inspector of elections, District 55, four-year term, Sandra Dellicker, 2 votes.
Towamensing Township: constable-six-year term, Beth Ritter Guth, 9 votes; auditor, six-year term, Eva Dugan, 3 votes.
Weatherly Borough: judge of elections, District 61, four-year term, Francine Affourtit, 6 votes.
Weissport Borough: council, four-year term, Brenda Leiby, 3 votes.
