Tamaqua police

Tamaqua police reported on the following charges and citations filed made by officers.

• Mark Ryan Dabney, 31, of Shenandoah, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked, and required financial responsibility for an incident on Sept. 11 at 11:50 p.m.

On the date and time listed, officers conducted a traffic stop at Center and Cedar streets. At the stop, officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, Dabney, was asked if anything illegal was inside the vehicle and he stated there was marijuana under the passenger seat. A consent search of the vehicle was conducted and 5.5 grams of marijuana was found under the passenger seat.

• On Aug. 29 at 2:23 p.m., police were monitoring traffic along Owl Creek Road when a 2005 Mazda came through going 57.7 mph in a 35 zone.

A traffic stop was made and Joseph Henry Kalbarczyk, 23, of Lansford, was identified as the driver. He told officers he had no ID and that there was a warrant for his arrest issued out of Tamaqua.

He was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to the county prison in Pottsville.

• On Sept. 12 at 6:06 p.m. police were called to the area of 307 Race St., for loud music.

On scene a neighbor, complained about loud music coming from the residence of Caroline Schattner, 63. When the officer arrived on scene he could hear the music coming from across the street.

The officer also noted Schattner was previously told about loud music and an ordinance against it. She was told she would receive a citation in the mail for disorderly conduct.

• Jason Christopher Wiersma, 43, of Tamaqua, has been charged with defiant trespass, public drunkenness, harassment and disorderly conduct for incidents on Aug. 28 at 9:25 p.m.

Police were dispatched to the parking lot of Boyer’s Market, Cedar Street, for a report of a suspect wearing an orange shirt and baseball cap pointing a gun at a female in her vehicle.

On scene officers spoke with the victim, who said the suspect had fled the scene. As police were finishing clearing the parking lot another call was received concerning a intoxicated male refusing to leave Mundy’s Pub, at Cedar and South Greenwood streets. The report said the suspect was wearing an orange shirt and baseball cap.

On scene, the bartender identified Wiersma as the suspect. He was taken into custody and placed in a police cruiser. The female in the parking lot incident came to the scene and identified Wiersman as the male who lunged at her vehicle and made it seem like he was pointing a gun.

• Matthew Slutter, 28, of Tamaqua, has been charged with simple assault and harassment for an incident on Aug. 31 at 11:25 a.m.

On the date state police were dispatched to a home on North Railroad Street, for a domestic incident.

On scene, police made contact with a female who said Slutter arrived at the residence, began banging on the front door, and eventually kicked the door in. Slutter then entered the residence and got into a verbal altercation with the female. He then became violent, the female stated, and began punching her in the head, back and rib area. Slutter was later located and charged.

• James Purvis, 41, of Tamaqua, has been charged with arrest prior to requisition for an incident on Sept. 2 at 2:15 p.m.

On the date, state police received information from the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force that Purvis was wanted on a warrant in Union County, New Jersey. Police went to his known address and took him into custody on the warrant.

He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $50,000 straight cash bail.

• Kietchen Isaac Eaches, 39, of Tamaqua, has been charged with terroristic threats, resisting arrest, persistent disorderly conduct and summary offense of disorderly conduct for an incident on Sept. 3 at 12:11 a.m.

On date and time, state police received a radio dispatched concerning a disturbance at Clarke and Elm streets where a male was screaming.

On scene, police learned that Eaches had been screaming at neighbors, setting off some kind of explosive device. One witness said he was using vulgar language.

Police attempted to take Eaches into custody and he struggled and forced had to be used to handcuff him.

Eaches was arraigned on the charges and committed to the county prison after failing to post $10,000 straight case bail.
