Kidder supervisors discuss fire companies’ needs

Kidder Supervisors, at their Sept. 16 meeting, made short work of their agenda. As both the Lake Harmony and Albrightsville fire companies are looking to replace aging fire equipment, supervisors scheduled a public meeting on Sept. 28 to hear company representatives and wade into the finances. That meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the municipal building. Lake Harmony needs a tanker/pumper and Albrightsville’s needs are for an engine/rescue.

Bids arrived and were opened before this meeting for this year’s paving project. Due to be paved are North Lake Drive, Fern Street and Harmony Avenue. Of three bidders, the H&K Group was lowest at $222,880. H&K was awarded the bid, conditioned on all documents are in order and the bid gets approval from the township attorney.

Mora Solar, the company proposing the large solar farm on the south edge of Blue Ridge Real Estate property in western Kidder, approached the board for a zoning amendment. Supervisors referred them to the planning commission.

The Exeter Group’s warehouse construction project reached another milestone in constructing improvements to their property. The township engineer confirmed these improvements, and that the developers can gain a release of another $6.1 million from their financial security agreement (leaving $7.4 million).

Kidder Police Chief Matt Kuzma thanked the fire companies’ personnel for their help during a bomb threat at Split Rock Lodge on Sept. 1.

Kuzma agreed to look into a citizen’s complaint regarding trespassing and dogs doing their business on a neighbor’s property.

In other fire news, Lake Harmony fire Chief Ralph Lennon shared that the company has gained permission for a new dry hydrant location in Snow Ridge Village, beside Jack Frost Mountain.

The township is seeking tree trimmers in order to complete this year’s branch cutting along township roads. Roadmaster Bruce Berger also reported that the heavy storms brought flooding along Kresge Lane, and some pipes on that road had washouts. These areas will be repaired before winter weather.

An electronics recycling event for Kidder residents is scheduled for Oct. 9. The township will post a list of items accepted, and any costs.
