Polk Township supervisors

Polk Township Supervisors conducted the following business this week:

• Treasurer Beverly Christman reported that a 902 replacement grant the township applied for in 2018 was finally received and the check for $154,433 was deposited on Oct. 23. The grant was delayed due to the pandemic.

• Road Master and Supervisor Brian K. Ahner said that both Kenworth trucks are ready for winter but the new plow that was ordered six months ago for the Freightliner truck will not be delivered for another two to three weeks.

• A local farmer hit the recently refurbished bridge on Dorshimer Road and the bridge will need some repairs, according to the Ahner.

• The board discussed 20 or so dead ash trees in the township park and whether it posed a liability to people in the park. The decision was made to wait until spring.

• The Solid Waste and Recycling Center is in the process of being cleaned up before winter. Bales and wires have been hauled away, along with other miscellaneous items. The are still 200 tires waiting to be picked up. The township cannot haul them because the company that recycles the tires sorts the different tires.

• Zoning and Codes Officer Tracy L. Herman, reported nine enforcement notices went out in October for violation. Five were for short term rental. Four out of the five are now compliant. Also, an ongoing issue for the past year that involved a large pile of garbage on Water Crest has now been resolved.

• Polk Township Trick or Treat will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

• The next supervisors meeting is at 7 p.m. Nov. 16.
