Carbon County court – guilty pleas

A New Jersey man admitted to an assault with a baseball bat at a truck stop in Carbon County court on Monday.

He was one of three defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

East Side

Joginder Singh

, 48, of Bellmour, pleaded to simple assault — bodily harm with a deadly weapon — for an incident on July 15, 2017. A charge of aggravated assault was dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney’s office.

Singh was charged by state police at Fern Ridge for an incident at the Hickory Run Travel Plaza in East Side Borough. He confronted a fellow truck driver, troopers said, with a baseball bat, causing injuries.

Matika placed him on probation for two years and ordered he make restitution of $3,725.14 to the victim, render 50 hours of community service and have no contact with the victim.

Checks taken

Tyrone Wesley Parker Jr.

, 19, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, pleaded to one count of receiving stolen property. He was charged with taking blank checks of two Weatherly residents and forging names and then attempting to cash them. He has been an inmate in the county prison since his arrest.

Matika sentenced him to serve six to 12 months in prison and render 25 hours of community service when paroled. He was given credit for 181 days already served. He will not be released until a pre-parole plan is approved by the adult probation office.

Two cases

Joshua Lee Gundry

, 30, of Hazleton, and formerly of Weatherly, entered guilty pleas in two pending cases. He pleaded to one count each of false identification to law enforcement and escape.

He was charge with the false ID on March 9, 2018, by Weatherly police and for escape on May 2, 2018, when he failed to return to the county prison while on work release.

On the two counts Matika sentenced him to serve one to 12 months in prison, with the terms running concurrently, and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service when paroled. The terms run concurrent with a probation violation sentence his is serving in Carbon County. It was noted he has a pending case in Schuylkill County.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
