Tamaqua Area school board

The Tamaqua area school board addressed the following:

• The district will be receiving E-rate funding to assist in the cost. The total cost to upgrade the technology and hardware was originally $211,102. After applying for E-rate funding, the district received the maximum 70 percent discount amounting to $147,771, which results in the new, final total cost of the project, $63,331.

“Instead of being able to do a very small portion of our district, we’ll be able to effectively wire the rest of it at the same cost,” Superintendent Ray Kinder said. “This is an extremely big win.

• Six companies interested in executing Tamaqua’s proposed feasibility study were present on May 8 for a walk-through, Kinder said. Proposals were due by May 29, with the final presentations to be made on June 11.

• Schuylkill Paving won the bid to perform the Tamaqua Elementary Paving Project. Five qualifying companies were originally interested; two chose to bid on it. The project will include paving a majority of the elementary campus.

• There were no changes to the budget. The board will be looking for final adoptions at the June 18 meeting.
