State police credit men for stopping brutal attack

When a woman was being viciously attacked in the middle night outside their home, Monroe County residents Hericson Torres and Brandon Caron sprung into action.

State police say that their actions saved a life, and honored them with an Outstanding Citizenship Award.

On April 26, Torres and Caron were awoken in the middle of the night by a woman screaming for help outside their Jackson Township home.

Police say she was being brutally attacked by Leo Arthur Gardner, 47. She suffered extensive injuries in the assault.

Torres and Caron immediately left their house and located the woman, and stopped Gardner from attacking, and possibly killing the victim.

“It was the quick actions of these two men that ultimately saved the victim’s life,” state police wrote in a press release.

Gardner is scheduled to go to trial on the charges in December. He is currently locked up at Monroe County Correctional Facility. He has been denied bail.
