Community Watch honors members

The Jim Thorpe Community Watch program honored many of its members during an awards ceremony last week.

Program coordinator Jamie Solomon said certificates were handed out to the 26 Halloween in the Park committee workers, and also 10 members who went beyond the call of duty."This is a special night for our group," Solomon said. "We have a lot of individuals who show extra concern, support and a love for their town."Solomon herself received a surprise award from Jim Thorpe Mayor Michael Sofranko and Borough Police Chief Joseph Schatz."Community Watch members attend many events and are very active in our town, our biggest event being Halloween in the Park," Solomon said. "This is a way for the 141 members of our group to celebrate what we have accomplished all year, and to give back to the children of our town."At Halloween in the Park, children received many free surprises including gift certificates from Burger King, McDonalds, Subway, Mauch Chunk 5 and 10, and the Lehigh Scenic Railway. Jim Gallagher, Toni and Andy Hot Dogs, Jackie and Gary Wagner's food stand, and Gaetano's Pizza also donated to the event.Sponsors, including Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, Lowes and Troxell's Pumpkin Patch, helped at Halloween in the Park by supplying inflatables pumpkins, a bounce house and entertainment.
