Carbon driver facing charges

A Carbon County driver is facing charges following an incident that began about 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

State police at Lehighton said troopers observed a 1997 Honda Accord, which was previously reported stolen, being driven along Long Pond Road in Tunkhannock Township, Monroe County. Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled.

A pursuit ensued with the driver stopped at the intersection of Long Pond Road and SR115.

The driver was identified as Stephen R. Lassell Jr., 25, of Lehighton. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI), fleeing and eluding police, theft, and receiving stolen property.

Troopers said he was lodged in the Monroe County prison in Snydersville pending arraignment. The investigation into the incident is continuing.
