Pocono arrests

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on the following arrests made by officers recently.

On March 3 officers on patrol along SR196 in Coolbaugh Township, at 2:45 a.m. conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle operated by Ronald Lamas, of Glouster Road, Tobyhanna, for a vehicle code violation. The odor of burnt marijuana was detected by officers coming from the vehicle. A consent search was conducted and found was marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police said Lamas would be charged with drug counts.

On March 4 officers were on patrol in Pocono Farms when they observed a suspicious vehicle parked along Seneca Way. As officers approached the Ford van it sped off and the driver refused to stop. After police pursued the vehicle for about five minutes the driver drove into a cul-de-sac and fled on foot.

Officers eventually caught up with the driver and took him into custody. He was identified as Joseph Bassetti, 49, of Jim Thorpe. He was charged with fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest, and several motor vehicle code violations. Also, it was learned he had a warrant for his arrest issued out of Philadelphia, for a drug count. He was taken to the county prison in Snydersville.

On March 1 about 3 p.m. police responded to Tobyhanna Army Depot for a male being detained for having a warrant for his arrest issued out of Houston, Texas, for a felony accident involving injury.

On scene the male was identified as Franklin A. Garcia, 38. He was placed under arrest and taken to the county prison where he will wait for extradition to Texas.
