Carbon driver facing charges

A Carbon County driver is facing charges following a hit and run accident.

Nesquehoning police chief Sean Smith reported he was dispatched to a hit and run accident in the 500 block of E. Catawissa St. on Friday, June 7, about 7:09 a.m.

On scene Smith observed a 2001 Volkswagon Jetta had been pushed into a utility pole causing severe damages to the car and minor to the pole. The owner was identified as Mark Zaengle, of 514 E. Catawissa St. A second vehicle, a 2010 Ford Escape, was also struck and sustained severe damages. The owners were identified as Richard and Nancy Vanhorn.

Through the course of the investigation and locating vehicles parts at the scene Smith filed two counts of hit and run of unattended vehicle, and one count each of failure to notify police of accident, and careless driving against David Brown Jr., of 84 W. Center St., Nesquehoning.
