Stower's record remains perfect

With one week remaining in the regular season of the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) summer basketball league, the six team playoff field has been set, with Mike Stower Coal & Oil leading the standings with an undefeated 7-0 record with one game remaining.

Stower's will try to cap off an undefeated season and the top overall seed for playoffs when they do battle with defending league champion Ryan's Oil & Heating (5-1) on Monday at 8:00 p.m. at Tamaqua's North and Middle Ward Playground.

Monday's slate of game is a can't miss "playoff preview," as all six playoff teams will match up with one another, as they battle for seeding in the season's final week.


Ziegler's Auto Repair & Towing-

Ryan's Oil & Heating

Ryan's Oil & Heating combined for 19 three-pointers as a team and topped the century mark with a 104-49 victory over Ziegler's Auto Repair & Towing.

Joe Schaeffer scored a league-high 42 points on 14 three-point field goals to break his previous ESRC record of 13 treys in a game, which was set in 2011. Ted Styka also scored 15 points in Ryan's win.

For Ziegler's Auto Repair & Towing, Mike Kunkel led the way with 25 points.

Vesuvio's-Batter's Box

Trailing by one point, Aaron Mantz took a pass from Bekim Mehmeti and converted a layup with three seconds left, as Batter's Box rallied for a 63-62 victory over Vesuvio's.

Mantz ended the night with 18 points to pace Batter's Box.

Dan Maguschak's 25-point effort was tops for Vesuvio's.

DJ 101-R.R. Frey Services

In another game that came down to the final seconds, R.R. Frey Services ended the night with a tight victory over DJ 101 54-52. With the game tied at 52-52, Jason Derr's driving layup gave Frey's a two-point lead in the waning seconds and DJ 101's last second shot attempt as time expired was off the mark.

Jeremy Frey scored a game-high 16 points to lead R.R. Frey Services.

Jordan Wartman accounted for 15 points in DJ 101's loss.


Dom N Ali Steaks & Seafood-DJ 101

DJ 101 punched its ticket into the playoffs with a 66-54 victory over Dom N Ali Steaks & Seafood.

Kyle Schaeffer totaled 20 points for DJ 101 in the winning effort.

For Dom N Ali's, Mike Taylor netted a game-high 23 points.

Mike Stower Coal & Oil-

Ziegler's Auto Repair & Towing

Mike Stower's came away with an easy win against Ziegler's Auto Repair & Towing by a final score of 87-59. The win keeps Stower's undefeated at 7-0, while Ziegler's remains winless at 0-7.

Soko Mujovic scored 22 points and was backed by a 21-point effort from Ethan Eichorst to lead Mike Stower's Coal & Oil.

For Ziegler's, Mike Kunkel once again led the way with a game-high 31 points.

R.R. Frey Services-Lucky's Deli

R.R. Frey Services finished off the week with a 77-62 victory over Lucky's Deli.

Ryan Achenbach tallied 20 points and Jeremy Frey added 19 points in R.R. Frey's win.

Ed Michalik's 22 points was good enough to lead Lucky's Deli.
