Driver facing DUI after crash

Published January 07. 2013 05:03PM

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 2:48 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, along SR209 at Diamond St., in Branch Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Bryan Shipton, 21, of Pottsville, was driving a 2002 Subaru Impreza southbound too fast for conditions when he lost control. The car traveled onto the west berm for about 70 feet before it struck a utility pole with the right front, which caused the pole to sheer off.

The vehicle continued south and came to final rest in the west berm. The road was closed for several hours for utility companies to make repairs and clear debris.

Shipton was not injured. He was found to be under the influence and placed under arrest. He was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for a blood test.

The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers said.
