A 52-year-old Mahoning Township man is lodged in Carbon County Prison following an incident on Aug. 10 in which he allegedly tried to prevent police from rendering aid to his girlfriend.

According to police on that date township police were dispatched to 2093 Mahoning Drive East to check on the welfare of a female who had called the crisis hotline.

Police said that while at the residence officers detained the female for a medical evaluation. While doing so the female's boyfriend, Gregory Ward, same address, attempted to stop officers while they were placing the female in a police car.

In doing so he shoved an officer and attempted to prevent them from closing the police car door. As a result Ward was charged with:

• Obstructing administration of law or other govenmental functions - a misdemeanor

• Persistent disorderly conduct - a misdemeanor

• Harassment - a summary offense

Ward was arraigned by District Judge Casimir Kosciolek, of Lansford, and placed in the prison in lieu of $2,000 cash bail.
