Coaldale to build salt storage shed

In anticipation of the inevitable snow and ice this winter, Coaldale borough council on Monday awarded the job of building a new 32-by-40-by-16 foot salt storage shed to a New Jersey company.

S&L Builders LLC, of Jersey Shore, submitted the lower of two bids, $21,350, plus an additional $5,200 for a six-inch concrete floor.The other bidder was Doubletree Structures of New Holland, Lancaster County, which offered to build the shed for $56,496.In other matters, those attending the special meeting Nancy Lorchak, Thomas Keerans, David Yelito and President Susan Solt agreed to allow the police department to buy a $1,559.99 audio-video system for the interrogation room. In a related matter, council approved spending $5,000 to repair the police department's sport utility vehicle, which needed a new engine.Also on Monday, Lorchak said the Finance Committee expects to have a preliminary budget ready for council's Nov. 13 regular public meeting.
