What is Pocono Services for Families and Children?

Pocono Services for Families and Children (PSFC) began 45 years ago from a six-week pilot program with 12 children on the campus of East Stroudsburg University to now serving over 200 children and their families. There are six classroom locations throughout Monroe County. It provides supportive services for young children and their families to promote success in school and life.

It is a non- profit agency that provides comprehensive supportive services for the community's most vulnerable young children and their families, meeting varied and unique challenges of needy and disabled children in the community.PSFC's major programs and services include the following:*Head Start of Monroe County providing high quality pre-kindergarten learning, health, family services and disabilities services to low-income families with children ages 3-5 years.*PA Pre K Counts provides pre-kindergarten education for 3 and 4 year olds in the East Stroudsburg Area School District who are "at risk" for school failure.*Full Day Child Care classrooms to support working parents and those receiving subsidy are available in Brodheadsville, Coolbaugh and East Stroudsburg.*Parenting Education Program provides assistance, and supports parents who are struggling with challenges in parenting their children.*Youth Mentoring Initiative provides area youth interested in a career in child care with training and opportunities to mentor children enrolled in PSFC programs.*Emergency Assistance programs that work to meet the food and fuel needs of our most vulnerable families.*PSFC Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships for income-eligible preschoolers and graduating High School students who began their educational journey at Monroe County Head Start.*Health Literacy Training provides first response training and first aid kits to low-income families in an effort to ensure appropriate health care choices to meet their children's medical needs.*The Bridge to Learning provides a 12-week summer "school readiness" program for parents and children entering Kindergarten in the fall.If you would like to learn more about Pocono Services for Families and Children and Head Start, contact Karen Fusco at (570) 992-1767 or email her at
