On behalf of the Jim Thorpe Police Department, Police Chief Joseph Schatz presented checks to both the Cystic Fibrosis Association and Officer Joseph David of the Jim Thorpe Police Department.

The funds were raised through the Policeman's Ball which was held this past February and was hosted by the Jim Thorpe Police Department.Officer David is recovering from injuries incurred while directing traffic at the scene of a disabled vehicle along SR209 in Nesquehoning.He was responding to the area, just near the Jim Thorpe line, to assist Nesquehoning police who were busy on another call.Accepting for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was their representative Mary Ann Sofronie.She noted that "the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the world's leader in the search for a cure for the disease and funds more CF research than any other organization.""Nearly 90 cents of every dollar of CF Foundation revenue goes to support vital CF research, medical, and education programs."She added that "the local CF chapter is the Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter which covers a total of 16 counties throughout Pennsylvania and the month of May is CF National Awareness Month."Sofronie finished by saying that "this is a historic time in the fight against Cystic Fibrosis in that promising therapies that treat the underlying cause of CF, rather than just the symptoms, are in late-stage clinical trials."
