Carbon burglary

State police at Lehighton are investigating a burglary that occurred at a Carbon County residence in which the homeowner observed the suspect, who then fled the scene. The incident occurred on Friday, Jan 27, between midnight at 12:20 a.m. at the home of Shirley A. Kuntz, 68, of 2380 Lower Smithgap Road, in Kunkletown, Lower Towamensing Township.

Troopers said the criminal entered the home through a rear basement door, which he pried open to gain entry. Once inside he went into several rooms including two bedrooms. As he was going through the home Kuntz, who was asleep on a living room couch, was awakened by footstep noises. Kuntz then obsered the intruder. He then ran down the stairs to the basement area and fled the home through the same door he used to gain entry. He fled on foot west on Lower Smithgap Road.The criminal managed to remove four jewelry boxes filled with various types of jewelry pieces which were reported to be low in value. Also taken was a flaslight, Kodak camera with zoom lens, and a flash attachment. He stored the items in a pillow case that he had removed from the master bedroom. troopers added.The suspect was described as being of medium build, about five-feet, 10-inches tall, wearing dark clothing which included a skull cap and gloves.Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at (610) 377-4270.
