Frank Potoczak, president of the Lehighton Downtown Initiative Committee, said this year's Lehighton Bike Night was a great financial success.

He told Lehighton Borough Council that the event netted over $7,600.

Potoczyak said there will be $1,000 to Lehighton Borough, $1,500 to the Lehighton Fire Department, and $1,500 in certificates to the Lehighton Police Department to purchase any items they need.

This was the 14th annual Bike Night, and it was held on August 11 in the vicinity of the downtown parks.

Bike Night was originally begun by local resident Edward Finney. After several years, he was forced to step down because of his work schedule.

A private committee kept Bike Night going until this year, when it almost was halted.

The Lehighton Downtown Initiative Committee agreed to take it over. Besides offering funds to the three borough entities, funds also will be used for Downtown Initiative Committee projects.
