The Flying Squirrels from Tamaqua Elementary School took the first place prize during the 2012 fourth and fifth grade (Explorers division) Envirothon, held at the Carbon County Environmental Education Center in Summit Hill on Tuesday. The Envirothon events are sponsored by area Lions clubs. Other teams that placed are: Penn Kidder Owls of Penn Kidder Elementary, second; L.B. Mocking Jay of L.B. Morris Elementary, third; and the Nuclear Ninjas of Lehighton Middle School, honorable mention.
