Driver facing DUI after crash
One of two drivers involved in a crash in Monroe County is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI). Pocono Mountain Regional police said the accident occurred about 7:38 a.m. on March 19 at the intersection of SR611 and Fairview Avenue, in Mount Pocono.
Police said Johad Austin, 31, of Tobyhanna, was northbound on 611 and making a left turn onto Fairview and told officers another car came out of nowhere and the vehicles collided. The other driver was identified as Earnestine Powell, of Mount Pocono. Powell told police she was southbound on 611 and Austin turned right in front of her.
Austin was found to be under the influence of marijuana. He was placed under arrest for DUI and accident related charges. He refused to submit to a blood test.
No one was injured and both vehicles had to be towed.
