Collecting for children

Effort UMC's United Methodist Women's group will be meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, July 9. The group is collecting donations of new book bags and school supplies for children of the church's Supplemental Family Resource Center to be distributed in August.

At the July 9 meeting Nita Nydem will lead the devotions and Ruth Flechsig and Dee Juris are in charge of refreshments.

BP readings

Blood pressure readings will be done for free from 10-11 a.m., at the Wednesday, July 11, meeting of the Chestnuthill Seniors. The group meets at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church's Fellowship Hall, Brodheadsville.

The winner is ...

Stephen Sagala of Effort won the Seventh Annual Senior Spelling Bee. He bested Diane Kurkowski-Worm of Stroudsburg. Both won last year's competition as well.

Club Assembly

West End Rotary Club will hold its monthly club assembly when the group meets at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, July 5, at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

Food pantry needs

With serving 39 families on June 30, the food pantry at Effort UMC is again in need of certain items. They are: tuna, peanut butter and jelly, and macaroni and cheese.

Anyone wishing to contribute may bring those donations, new and sealed, to the church during office hours (9:30 2:30 p.m.) Monday through Friday or by other pre-scheduled arrangements.

Youth Mission trip

A contingent of 14 youth and eight adults are scheduled to leave for Broadalbin, N.Y., from Effort UMC after the 8:30 a.m. service Sunday.

The group's goal is a Reach Workcamp where they will be able to serve, sweat and grow.

Since the pastor and many other adult leaders of the church will be going on the trip, the congregation will have a hymn sing that Sunday.

Knit & Crochet

The first meeting of July of the Zion Lutheran Church's Knit & Crochet group will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 10.

The group is scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, July 24, at the same time.

VBS scheduled

McMichaels UMC, on White Church Road in McMichaels, will be holding its Vacation Bible School for children ages 3 through 7th grade, July 16-20. The classes will be 6:30 p.m. sharp through 8:15 p.m.

Marie Link and Meredith Megna are in charge. All are welcome but registration of the children is requested. Call (570) 629-1136 to register.
