Monroe man facing several charges

A Monroe County man is facing several charges following a fleeing and eluding incident that occurred on Friday, Jan. 6.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said about 4:25 p.m. officers were parked along SR115, in Tunkhannock Township, when a vehicle passed them going at a high rate of speed.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver continued on 115 and then turned onto Long Pond Road. The driver then stopped when he pulled up behind a school bus.

The driver was identified as Gerard Nicholas, 20, of Kunkletown. He told officers he did not stop because he had an expired drivers license. Nicholas was taken into cusdody and charged with fleeing or eluding, possession of marijuana, posssession of drug paraphernalia, theft of property or mislaid of a state drivers license and three motor vehicle code violations.

He was later released from custody, police said.
