Lioness Lions to meet

The Lehighton Area Lioness Lions will meet at 6 p.m., Oct. 6 at the Carbon Career and Technical Institute. District Gov. Scott Dudley will be visiting. In addition, the club will present checks to the Lehighton Pool Pals, fire company, library and police. Members are encouraged to invite a guest or family member.

The club is busy preparing for its Halloween Spooktacular at the Lehighton Recreation Center at 7 p.m. Oct. 26. Children 12 years and under are invited to participate. Pre-registration is required by calling Pat Whitehead at (610) 377-5025. In addition, the club the club is sponsoring the Pink Light Walk, a breast cancer awareness event on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Lehighton Recreation Center. Pre-registration for this event is required by emailing and including your name, address and telephone number and whether you are a survivor or supporter.

Community members are encouraged to place used eyeglasses at any of the following Lehighton locations: Lehighton High Rise, First Street; Lehighton Library, South Street; PNC Bank, First Street; Wells Fargo Bank, Interchange Road, Jim Thorpe National Bank, 4th Street; Mallard Market, 2nd Street; Lehighton Municipal Building, 2nd Street; Dr. Hawk Dental Office, South Third Street; Dr. Dematte Chiropractic, Interchange Road, Lehighton; Wells Fargo Bank, Interchange Road; PNC Bank, Route 443; and Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, 12th Street.

During the month of August, the club collected over 40 pairs of used eyeglasses for those in need. Eyeglasses are recycled for those in other countries who are unable to afford corrective lenses. Anyone needing financial assistance with eyeglasses can contact committee chairperson, Lisa Whitehead at (610) 379-4002. There are financial guidelines that must be followed by all applicants and a written application must be completed and approved.
