A total of 251 cases were started in February in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 54; custody complaints, 21; district justice appeals, 4; divorce complaints, 18; ejectment, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 17; name change petitions, 2; protection from abuse petitions, 13; auditor/financial reports, 1; court appointments, 2; miscellaneous cases, 3; judgments, 111; stipulations/waivers of liens, 2; and writs of execution, 2. The office staff also received and processed 88 applications for U.S. Passports.
Behrens' financial report shows $28,251.51 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $23,846.80; interest income, $2.55; custody fees, $400; data processing fees, $4,002.16.
The prothonotary also remitted $3,009.30 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $96 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,149.67 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
