League to meet
The Anthracite Little League (Summit Hill and Nesquehoning) will hold a meeting on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Summit Hill Borough Hall. Parents will also be able to register their child(ren) at this time for participation in the league this year. Information on the 2011 will be announced. Nathan Halenar presided at his first monthly meeting of the Jeffersonian Democratic Club, Summit Hill, on Thursday, Feb. 17, in the Summit Hill Borough Hall.
Halenar was elected president in January, succeeding Robin McArdle.
Other officers are Robert Crampsie, vice president; Joseph O'Gurek Jr., treasurer; and Alice Kane, secretary.
District Attorney Gary Dobias, who has been in the prosecuting office for 30 years, addressed the club members.
Membership in the club is now open for 2011. Dues are $2.
Members discussed local offices that are to be decided by the voters in this year's municipal election. They include four borough council positions and five seats on the Panther Valley School District Board of Directors.
Members announced the club has nominating petitions for anyone desiring to seek those positions.
The club decided to change its monthly meetings from the third Thursday of the month to the fourth Wednesday of each month, so as to not conflict with a similar meeting of the Lansford Democratic Club.
Belated birthday wishes are extended to Margaret Kozuch of town, who celebrated her 92nd birthday on Jan. 25. Wishes can be conveyed to her at the home of her daughter, Belle Rodrigues, Belle Rodrigues, 3036 Eisenhower Drive, Northampton, PA 18067.
The weekly scripture sharing sessions sponsored by St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will be held Thursday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. in the parish rectory.
Bob Ames, choir director for St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, has announced the schedule of upcoming rehearsals as follows: Thursdays, Feb. 24 and March 3, and Wednesday, March 9, following the Ash Wednesday Mass.
The rehearsals are in anticipation of the upcoming Confirmation Mass to be held in the church on Tuesday, March 15, at 4:30 p.m. with His Excellency, Bishop John Barres, presiding.
At 7 p.m. each Wednesday St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, holds an informal worship, a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief evening prayer.
For those who wish to come early, a simple supper is served at 6 p.m., followed by a brief adult Bible study and children's program at 6:30 p.m.

Meed's free dinner
The free community dinner at Meed's Methodist Church in Nesquehoning will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 5-7 p.m. All are invited.
The Chose Recreational Organization of Coaldale will meet Thursday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at the Coaldale Borough Hall.
There will be election of officers and final plans will be made for the soup sale. Members are asked to bring their orders to the meeting.
