A Bangor man lost control of his vehicle while driving in Palmerton, causing a chain reaction that involved three other parked vehicles.

Palmerton patrolman Michael Fedor said the police department was dispatched to the scene of an accident at 636-638 Delaware Avenue around 5:51 a.m. MondayFedor said Gary Gaines Jr., 20, of Bangor, was traveling east on Delaware Avenue when his 1992 Ford Taurus drifted off the roadway and struck a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta owned by Chip Solt of Palmerton. The impact of that collision caused Solt's vehicle to push into a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta owned by his daughter, Alexander Solt, whose vehicle then struck Chip Solt's 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee.Fedor said Gaines was looking or reaching for something in the passenger area of his vehicle, which most likely caused him to be distracted.Fedor said Gaines' vehicle sustained heavy damage. The other three vehicles sustained moderate damage, he said.Gaines was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic, Fedor said.
