The Rev. Kenneth A. Medve, pastor of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Diocese of Allentown's Catholic Charities Appeal.
The appointment was announced recently by the Most Rev. John O. Barres, D.D., Bishop of Allentown.
Medve will serve a three-year term that begins immediately and will run through June 13, 2013.
The St. Mary Magdalene Society Jr. Branch 46 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, Lansford, is once again sponsoring a scholarship/awards program in which financial awards are presented to a high school or college graduate. Applications are now being accepted.

Members of Group 18 of the Slovak Catholic Sokols, Lansford, will hold their annual dinner meeting on Sunday, Dec. 5. Members will assemble in the vestibule of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, that day prior to the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Following the Mass, the Sokols will reconvene at the Viennese Villa, Coaldale, where a business session will precede the dinner.
There is no charge for the dinner. Members who plan to attend are asked to make reservations by calling Mike or Susan Lukac, (570) 645-7458.
Anna Drozd, a former Summit Hill resident, will celebrate her 100th birthday on Dec. 2.

Lions set date
The Summit Hill Lions Club has set the date of its annual Christmas party for Sunday, Dec. 19, beginning at 6 p.m. at The Lantern, Nesquehoning. For more information, members can contact Dr. Kenneth Vermillion, club president.
The Summit Hill Food Pantry will provide food boxes/baskets to the needy in town next week. The Summit Hill Lions Club assists the pantry with preparation of the boxes. That work will take place on Monday, Nov. 22, at 9 a.m. The distribution will follow on Tuesday, Nov. 23, starting at 10 a.m.

Thanksgiving Eve Service
A Thanksgiving Eve Service will be held at First Congregational Church at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24. Choir rehearsal will follow at 8 p.m.
On Sunday, Nov. 28, the first Sunday of Advent, Morning Worship will be held at 9 a.m. and Sunday School, at 10 a.m.
Nursing home visits to St. Luke's-Miners and MapleShade will be made at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively, on Wednesday, Dec. 1.
The Coaldale C.H.O.S.E. Recreational Organization will have its Christmas Tree Lighting Event Sunday, Nov. 28, at 5 p.m. at the borough hall, Third Street, Coaldale.
Christmas Carols will be sung and the Coaldale Fire Company will be bringing Santa on its truck with lots of gifts for all the children. Hot drinks and goodies will be served in the borough hall after the festivities.
