A vacant seat has emerged on the Northern Lehigh School Board after a school director suddenly resigned from his post.

Contacted this morning, school Director Gregory Williams told the TIMES NEWS that school Director Donald Dengler resigned from the board, but didn't indicate a reason for his decision.

Also contacted this morning, board President Edward Hartman told the TIMES NEWS Dengler's letter of resignation was dated May 17.

Efforts to reach Dengler for comment in time for today's publication were unsuccessful.

The district will accept applications for the vacancy until 3 p.m. June 3. Williams said the board could choose to fill the vacancy when it meets at 7:30 p.m. June 14.

Whomever is chosen to fill the vacancy will serve until Dec. 2011. To seek re-election beyond that point, the individual must have their name placed on the November ballot.

Residents of the district who are interested in the position should write a letter of application to: Mr. Gregory S. Williams, Board Secretary, Northern Lehigh School District, 1201 Shadow Oaks Lane, Slatington, PA 18080.

No telephone applications will be accepted. Letters can be mailed or delivered in person. Personal data, or a resume which will assist the directors in the interview, should be included in the application.

The TIMES NEWS initially learned of the vacancy through a message that is posted on the district's web site,
