Local students show their spelling skills

The District 5 CYO Spelling Bee was held April 21, at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lehighton.

Students in grades 4 and 5 from St. Jerome Regional School, Tamaqua; St. John Neumann School, Palmerton; as well as parishes in Carbon and North Schuylkill counties participated.

District 5 CYO Commissioner Phil Liszka oversaw the competition, along with Bill Keer, and the Rev. Christopher Zelonis moderated the bee.

The Catholic Youth Organization is a parish-based academic and athletic program that falls within the parameters of a parish’s comprehensive youth ministry program.
