Post 314 Ladies Auxiliary names Poppy Queen

Rachel Serfass, 10, daughter of Karen and Steve Serfass, Lehighton, was named Poppy Queen of Shoemaker-Haydt American Legion Auxiliary Unit 314. From left are, Gladys Balliet, Unit 314 president, and LaRue Fritz, Poppy chairwoman, Unit 314, and Four County Council (Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton); Serfass; and Lehighton Mayor Donald Rehrig, who is purchasing the first poppy. Serfass attends Franklin Elementary School and enjoys playing softball on the Bowmanstown Blaze team where she is a shortstop, second baseman and pitcher. Fritz will accompany Serfass at various sites to promote the poppy program. She will be at Carbon Plaza Mall May 14-15 and at the Memorial Day and Veterans Day parades.
