Coaldale man facing DUI charge
A Coaldale man is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) of a controlled substance following an incident in the borough.
Kevin Endriga Fort, 22, of 126 W. Miner St., was charged following an incident on Aug. 15, about 10 p.m. in the area of 401 E. Ridge St.
Officer Scott D. Cramer was called to the area by local residents who reported suspicious activity along a dirt road to the rear of a residence. At the scene police found a Jeep with Fort behind the wheel and the engine running.
Police were told by local residents of apparent drug activity in the vehicle. Fort was identified as the driver and police observed he had glassy, bloodshot eyes and appeared to be dazed. Upon questioning Fort at first denied any drug activity but later admitted he had used heroin earlier in the day.
Fort was taken into custody and transported to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, where he submitted to a blood test. The result showed the presence of marijuana and opiates.
Fort has been charged with two counts of DUI of a controlled substance and motor vehicle code violations of notice of change of name or address on driver's license, required financial responsibility, and notice of change of name or address on vehicle registration. At the time of the incident Fort had listed addresses on identification and registration including Hazleton and Tamaqua.
