A Tamaqua teen recently completed his Eagle Scout project to earn Eagle Scout status. His project included three separate project sites.

Connor Veglia, 18, has earned 48 merit badges during his active 11-year scouting career. Veglia was nominated and achieved his Order of the Arrow - "Brotherhood and Ordeal" through the Black Rock District, Hawk Mountain.

At Tuscarora State Park, his project included providing visitor seating at Tuscarora State Park. He installed two benches at the office area and visitor center, plus he built two picnic tables which are handicap accessible at the lake front.

Of the benches placed at Tuscarora State Park, one bench was placed in memory of Frank Pangonis, donated by Diane Butkus and her family in memory of her father, and the other one is in memory of James P. Veglia, Connor's uncle, by the Veglia family.

At Locust Lake Park he placed a bench at the playground area.

For the third location, he renovated the scout room at St. John United Church of Christ with storage racks, tables and cabinets to help organize supplies.

Veglia has also worked as a camp counselor at Camp Minsi in Mount Pocono for three summers. He worked as a scout craft counselor, waterfront counselor and lifeguard.

His Eagle Scout Court of Honor will be held Sunday.

Veglia is the son of Judy and Brian Veglia and is a senior at Tamaqua Area High School. His goal is to join the U.S. Air Force following graduation.
