PV board hires Special Education supervisor

Panther Valley school board on Thursday hired Sandra Michalik of Lehighton as Special Education supervisor.

Michalik will be paid $70,000 a year, and starts work on Monday.Michalik has decades of experience, having taught Special Education classes at the former Carbon County Vocational Technical School in 1993, and in the Northern Lehigh School District until 2004. As of 2011, she was assistant supervisor of Special Education in the Lehighton Area School District.The school board also hired Nicole DeLazio of Hazleton as a part-time psychologist. She will be paid $80 an hour, for up to 150 hours. She starts work Monday and will work until September.In other personnel moves, the board accepted the resignations of assistant volleyball coach Corrine Gates; substitute instructional aide Amber Vachon; substitute secretary/substitute instructional aide Molly Damian; and substitute instructional aide Jacqueline Nalesnik.All of the resignations are effective immediately.The board also hired Lisa Yarnell as cafeteria shipper at $14.30 for 5.5 hours a day, and changed the shift of custodian Patrick Leonzi to high school second shift. He's paid $13.34 an hour.
