Mahoning Valley church offers vacation Bible school

St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mahoning Township is offering Vacation Bible School for everyone.

"It doesn't matter where you go to church, or if you go to church. This is a good time, a great week, for the whole community," said the Rev. Chris deForest, pastor, who along with his wife Allison, will also offer sessions for adults."Some VBS programs focus only on the kids, and that's great. But we like to offer VBS for everyone. So we have sessions for all ages: preschool, elementary, junior high, high school, and adults. It's one of the things that make our VBS unique in this area," he said. This year's theme is "God's Backyard," and deForest says it makes sense with St. John's location, out in the country, near the Mahoning Valley Country Club golf course and Sensinger's Greenhouses on Route 902."When we say, 'God's Backyard,' we really mean it," deForest said. "We have a lot of green space up here along the side of the mountain. And this time of year, as the lightning bugs start to come out, it's really something. It's like we have stars in the sky, and stars in the fields."St. John's Vacation Bible School will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. June 17-21. Attendance is free and no pre-registration is required. Snacks are provided, and people may attend any or all sessions. For more information, call Jan Wentz at (570) 386-2073, or St. John's Church office at (570) 386-9960.
